Tutoring Programs

One Child at a Time Learning Institutes (OCAAT) Youth Mentoring and Tuturing Programs are designed to assist in improving the overall academic achievement and life skills of inner city youth. Tutoring programs that address nonacademic outcomes should additionally refer to indicators in the Youth Mentoring program area of our organization.

OCAAT, has collaborated with college level students from University of California (USC) who will volunteer their time to work with our inner city youth to provide important academic assistance. The tutoring provided goes far beyond providing assistance with regular schoolwork, most of the OCAAT youth come from single parent homes with no father present. Some children live with relatives or in foster care and do not have an adult who will guide them in their learning. The real power of the tutoring program therefore comes from this one-to-one interaction between the tutor and the student.

OCAAT operates its year round flagship tutoring program ‘Homework Camp 101’ which focuses on increasing student’s knowledge, learning skills, and time devoted to schoolwork and homework; And its mentoring programs ‘SPEAK UP Youth of America’ which focuses on public speaking and ‘I Can Mange My Money’ a debt management program at Rancho Park located in the heart of Los Angeles. Mentoring programs are offered yearly in 8-week sessions, Certificate of Participation awarded at the completion of the program.

Mentoring and tutoring sessions will be held in the Learning Resource Center (LRC) at Rancho Cienega Park, located at 5001 Rodeo RD in Los Angeles, CA 90016 on the following days:

· ‘SPEAK UP Youth of America’ Public Speaking - Monday Afternoons (3:30-5:30) ·

· “I CAN Manage my Money’ Debt Management - Tuesday Afternoons (3:30-5:00)

· ‘Homework Camp 101’ Afternoons - Monday – Thursday (3:30-5:30)
