About Us
ONE CHILD AT A TIME LEARNING INSTITUTE (OCAAT) a non profit 501(C) is a youth development prevention program whose objective is to be a positive alternative resource for Los Angeles County youth ranging from ages 5 to 18 years; We provide the resources and programs for these youth to realize their full potential through completing High School, achieving a College education, and to becoming tomorrow’s leaders.
One can define ‘youth development’ as:
"...the ongoing growth process in which all youth are engaged in attempting to (1) meet their basic personal and social needs to be safe, feel cared for, be valued, be useful, and be spiritually grounded, and (2) to build skills and competencies that allow them to function and contribute in their daily lives." (Pittman, 1993, p. 8)
At the core of our youth development prevention programs are project-based educational and sports enrichment activities, school partnerships, and tutoring programs. All programs seek to engage youth in innovative, interactive, transformative learning experiences. The futures of our youth change drastically, with the prevention programs we provide to them.
At ONE CHILD AT A TIME LEARNING INSTITUTE, we consider youth a major priority and highly encourage them to become involved in and have an active voice in their communities. We empower youth and their families by offering recreational sports and educational opportunities, support services and a safe, drug-free environment in which to socialize. We are committed to building positive relationships within our community and to providing a nurturing and caring atmosphere for youth and their families.
Our motto is, "The Key to success is education and we will do it One Child at a Time."
